Bert
Christian is the Pastor of Congregational Care and Outreach
Ministries but has recently taken on the
responsibility of Interim Senior Pastor.
Pastor Bert believes
pastors need to train
people
to
conduct
the ministry of the
local church.
Pastor Bert’s vision is to bring home the reality
of Ephesians 4:12: “For the perfecting of the saints,
for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body
of Christ.” He
works each day to achieve that vision by training our people
to care for
one another and reach out to the lost in our community.
As pastor of congregational care he
oversees: Deacon Care Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Women on
the Move for Christ, Faithbuilders Ministry, Baptism Ministry,
Usher/Greeter Ministry, and the Welcome
Center. As pastor of outreach he oversees: Missions, Basic Needs
Ministry, Clowns for Christ, Visitation Ministries to Nursing Homes,
Hospitals, Shut-Ins, and Guest Visitation Ministry.
In less than 5 years Pastor Bert would like to see the Deacon
Care Ministry (DCM) expand to the point where a chairman of the
DCM is directing the total care of our congregation through that
ministry. This will be accomplished through the training of our
deacons on how to utilize their people to serve and minister
to one another.
He wants to continue to work on outreach ministry plans to take
Albany Baptist out into the community and get more involved in
people’s lives, in ministering to them, sharing the gospel
with them, and bringing them into the church through their acceptance
of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Bert graduated from Albany High School in their last graduating
class of 1966. He spent 20 years in the U.S. Army and has been
on staff at Albany Baptist since 1988. He has a bachelor’s
degree in individual studies from Columbia University and is
working on a master’s degree in religion from Liberty University.
Bert and his wife Sharon have three children: Catrina, Bret,
and Travis. They also have four grandchildren.
